A black headboard can be an integral part of your room and works with black queen bedding. Often times in the bedroom the focus is on the bed. You can really create this effect quite easily just by bringing in a very dramatic color that will work with black tile. However, it is still neutral so it will coordinate with all of the different wood tones and painted furniture that you might already have in your space.
When you go with a black leather headboard then this seems extremely modern. You might want to continue this material throughout your room. You could find a dresser with leather insets or this can be a DIY project that you can do yourself. Another option would be to find a platform bed where the entire base of the piece is wrapped in leather. This can be very dramatic and different than just the typical headboard.
You can also use a black tufted headboard. You really need to consider the size especially if you're upholstering one of these pieces yourself. It might be a little bit of a daunting task so you may want to go with a smaller piece of furniture at first. This can be a mistake because once you get your mattress on as well as all of the throw pillows you might not even see everything that you worked so hard for. Instead just put a little bit of extra effort and spend the money on quality fabrics so that this is really going to get noticed in a good way. This can be a color principle that you use all throughout your home from a black dining chair to a black sectional.

You could also go for a black panel headboard. This can have a vintage or antique effect. Around this era really Asian inspired designs were extremely popular but it still had kind of an old Hollywood feeling. This lead to a lot of bedding sets that resembled bamboo but they may have been in a four poster kind of style for added drama. Of course since it is such a custom look you may need to have it made or just really shop carefully and wait until you find a piece that you truly love.
You can also try a little bit of and painting. This is a way to liven up a black wood headboard. You could also just use this color accent on this kind of piece. For instance you could just paint a monogram on it. You could also have a lot of fun with it just by going with more of a his and hers design. This way you will never get whose side of the bed is whose mixed up again because they will be painted right on there. You can also continue the Asian kind of design look by ink painting kind of leaves or even write out Asian symbols for good luck or sleep. You could also have a lot of fun with words just by stenciling different sleep or dream related words on the headboard. If you wanted a contemporary look then this could be in a block lettering kind of style.
If you go for black metal headboard you may just want to change it up. You can find ways to turn pieces that aren't typically used for furniture into the perfect and custom piece for your room. For instance this could be an old iron gate for a Spanish or country kind of feeling which can be very romantic. It won't be too frilly just because it is made out of a heavy material and it does have a very dark finish to it.
Headboards don't have to be strictly functional. For instance you could just play around with the idea of an oversized clock. You could paint one of these above your bed. Another option would be to create it yourself with a cut out. Of course it doesn't have to have moving hands but this can be a very traditional decorative accessory that you use in an entirely new way. It can also be a way to incorporate an Alice in Wonderland or even London kind of feeling in the space. You could try a large wall sticker. You could also just paint it directly on the wall with black paint.
