Design Tips for a White Farmhouse

A white farmhouse really gives you the feeling of the country even if you live in the city and have a black storage ottoman or black and white room decor. When you think of this kind of design you may envision wide open spaces with beautiful blue skies. This can really seem totally far away from a cluttered apartment or condo. However, you can just follow a few decorating ideas to get this ambiance in your room along with white accents.

This is really a great look for a kitchen along with white wall decor. You can even work it in with modern or traditional kinds of design styles with a black bookcase for all of that cookbook storage. You may just want a little bit of an older touch to your home so that it does have some character to it. This is also going to give a lot more durability to the room in the future just because it's not going to look like a specific time period. Instead, you can just bring in the things that you really love in your space. A great way to do this is with a white farmhouse sink. Of course, this is a lot more expensive than traditional versions. It can also be the focal point in the room. Even if you don't love washing dishes you can love the sink that you wash them in.

If you do have a white farmhouse kitchen then you might want to paint your cabinets. It's important to focus in on colors that blend but aren’t too similar. For instance if you want to highlight your sink then you could go with a dusty blue cabinet. This can add a little bit of color, even if you do have white walls. This can be a little bit overwhelming in the space especially if it's a smaller room. You may also be a little bit scared about just using too much color. You might not like it undertake a huge design project that involves redoing all of the cabinets. Instead, you could just try refinishing the lower or upper cabinets as long as the rest of your cabinets still coordinate. You can even add in molding or different knobs so that it really gets more of the effect of furniture. This could really make an expensive sink pop.

You can try mixing different time periods. This allows you to use something like a white farmhouse table that may be antique with a lantern that is new. It can be in the same kind of casual living design style. This makes the most of your budget because you can shop for all different kinds of stores from the clearance section to thrift shops. It also gives you an eclectic look that still looks like it's right out of a magazine.

You can also just add in fresh colors especially with old-style accessories. This may require a little bit of paint. A black and white farmhouse can take all different forms. If you're going with a traditional look then you can bring the stain on your flooring and keep the rest of the room light and bright. You could pair it with a marble countertop for even an antique dining table or nightstand with this kind of stone top to it. It's very important that you just find things like farming implements or wood signs that change up the color palette so that things don't seem too old or cluttered. Just sticking with two tones is really going to get a graphic element and make you rethink the basic necessities of this design style.

Another staple of this kind of design has lots of light. You really need to have open windows and bright colors. Really having white as the basis of your design accomplishes this quite easily. It gives everything a fresh look and allows the true beauty and craftsmanship of the furniture pieces that you find to really pop.
